Verne, Jules: -

Although he began his professional career as a lawyer, Jules Verne quickly realized that it didn't truly interest him. Verne was always deeply fascinated by the future and constantly read about the inventions being developed during his time. In his novels, he tried to imagine how life in the 20th century would unfold--what technologies we'd have, and so on. Some of his books explore the theme of travel and predicted reality many years ahead.

His most notable works include Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (where the first electric submarine, the Nautilus, appears), Around the World in Eighty Days (inspired by the traveler Georges Train, who achieved this record), Five Weeks in a Balloon, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.
