Martin Taucar bekam im Alter von 38 Jahren die Diagnose Darmkrebs. Nach der histologischen Befundung stellte sich heraus, dass der Krebs bereits relativ stark das umliegende Gewebe erreicht hatte und damit wurden seine Chancen als sehr schlecht eingestuft. Der Autor beschreibt die Phasen, die er ab der Diagnosestellung durchgemacht hat. Erst nach und nach konnte er die Diagnose richtig fassen. Dann aber stellte sich die Wende ein und er begann nach allen Möglichkeiten zu suchen, die ihn über die schulmedizinische Behandlung hinaus Hilfe versprachen. Damit wechselte er aber auch die Rolle vom passiven Patienten zum aktiven Teil in der Therapie. Die vielen Informationen, die er in dieser Zeit zusammengetragen hat, lie en ihn erkennen, wie breit das Feld ist, dem Krebs beikommen zu können. Martin Taucar beschreibt aus der Sicht des Betroffenen, wie er sich aus den vielen Möglichkeiten das für sich passende herausgefiltert hat und somit seinen erfolgreichen Weg durch die schwere Krankheit gefunden hat. Das Buch soll Patienten oder Patientinnen, die in ähnlicher Weise von der Diagnose Krebs getroffen wurden, Mut machen und auch eine Unterstützung bieten, den für sich eigenen Weg durch die Krankheit zu finden.

Martin Taucar hatte bis zu seiner Diagnosestellung Darmkrebs kein unübliches Leben geführt. Er hat ein technisches Studium absolviert, arbeite in größeren Industrieunternehmen und lebte mit seiner Frau und seinen beiden Kindern im Grünen etwas außerhalb von Graz. Sein Weg durch die Krankheit, den er sich selbst erarbeitet hatte, veränderte sein Leben und seinen Lebensstil nachhaltig.
