Nel 2011, il neurologo italiano Antonio Costantini iniziò a trattare i suoi pazienti affetti da Parkinson con alti dosaggi di vitamina B1. Nei cinque anni in cui sperimentò la terapia, osservò miglioramenti dei sintomi motori e non motori fino al 70%, e senza alcuna evidente progressione della malattia.
