""Yeast: A Problem"" is a novel written by Charles Kingsley, first published in 1851. The story is set in the mid-19th century and explores the themes of social class, religion, and morality. The protagonist, Lancelot Smith, is a young and ambitious clergyman who struggles with his faith and his desire for social advancement. He falls in love with a wealthy and beautiful woman, but their relationship is complicated by their different social backgrounds and their conflicting beliefs. The novel also features a subplot about the brewing industry and the role of yeast in the process of fermentation. Kingsley uses the metaphor of yeast to explore the idea of moral corruption and the dangers of unchecked ambition.
