About The Author

Paul Charles-René Landormy (1869–1943) was a French musicologist and critic renowned for his insightful works on classical music. His notable biographies and the three-volume La musique française remain key resources in French musical scholarship, blending academic rigor with accessibility and Frederick Herman Martens (1874–1932) was an American author, translator, and music critic known for works on violin technique and musical interpretation. He translated Carl Flesch’s The Art of Violin Playing and authored Violin Mastery and String Mastery. Martens also wrote librettos, cantatas, and adapted European fairy tales, contributing significantly to early 20th-century musical and literary culture.
