About the Book This book traces the history of Delhi from the Stone Age to the time of the Rajputs. It meticulously weaves together evidence from stone tools, ancient mounds, pottery, monuments, sculpture, literature, and local traditions to construct a comprehensive and lively narrative. Highlighting the intersections between 'ancient', 'medieval' and 'modern' in the city's historical landscape, it presents the different ways in which the past is remembered and recreated. The text is illustrated with several maps and photographs bringing alive Delhi's little known ancient past. The second edition updates the research on Delhi's history and includes some new evidence. It also underlines the importance of new perspectives for understanding Delhi's past. About the Author Upinder Singh</b> is an alumna of St Stephen's College at Delhi. She did her doctoral degree at McGill University, Canada from where she received her PhD. She is a professor in the History Department at the University of Delhi, India. She is also the recipient of the inaugural award instituted by the Infosys, in the field of social sciences. She lives in Delhi with her husband and two sons. She is the daughter of the ex - Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
