Deshalb beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit mit dem Thema des Triumphs, insbesondere mit dem des Titus, da dieser in Folge der Monopolisierung des Triumphs durch das Kaiserhaus als letzter Triumphzug eines römischen Feldherrn gilt. Im Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung steht dabei der konkrete Ablauf des Triumphs mit den Elementen, die einen Triumphzug auszeichnen. Darunter fallen Raum, Akteure, verwendete Requisiten, Aktivitäten, emotionale Aspekte und in erster Linie die Funktion des Triumphs. Um dies zu leisten ist es vonnöten, zunächst allgemeine Aspekte des Triumphzugs, wie die Etymologie, die Entwicklung im Laufe der römischen Geschichte und die geforderten Rahmenbedingungen eines Triumphs zu betrachten (Kapitel 2). Im Anschluss wird speziell der Triumph des Titus betrachtet, wobei der politische Kontext (Kap. 3.1) kurz beleuchtet wird. Da der Bericht des jüdisch-hellenistischen Historikers Flavius Josephus über den Jüdischen Krieg als Hauptquelle dient, ist es unausweichlich, die Hintergründe des Autors und der Entstehung seines Werkes zu betrachten. Der Hauptteil in Kapitel 3.3 befasst sich mit dem konkreten Ablauf des Flaviertriumphs, wobei als Hauptquelle die Beschreibung des Flavius Josephus dient, die mit Hilfe der Forschungsliteratur ergänzt wird. Mit Kapitel 3.4 folgt die Analyse der Funktion der Feierlichkeit und abschlie end ein Resümee.
