Die wissenschaftlichen Leistungen in der Habsburgermonarchie in der ersten Halfte des 19. Jahrhunderts sind aus verschiedenen Grunden unterbelichtet. Eine systematische Auswertung der in Wien erschienenen gelehrten Zeitschriften und Unterhaltungsblatter aus dieser Zeit schafft eine Basis, um sich diesem "versunkenen Kontinent" anzunahern. Die wissenschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen Wien und den bohmischen Landern waren eng und fruchtbar. Nachdem Teil I (2011) die Bereiche Belletristik und Pressewesen erschlossen hat, wird in Teil II des auf vier Teile ausgelegten Bandes jenes Material systematisch erfasst, das in die Bereiche Sprachwissenschaften - Philosophie, Asthetik, Rhetorik - Geschichte - Bildungsinstitutionen fallt. Es zeigt sich, dass die Wiener gelehrten Zeitschriften des Vormarz, die interdisziplinar ausgerichtet waren, eine Fulle an wissenschaftsgeschichtlich relevantem Material bergen. Da ein buchwissenschaftlicher Ansatz gewahlt wurde, sind im kritischen Apparat jene Werke ausgewiesen, welche rezensiert bzw. angezeigt wurden. Die Zeitschriften verbreiteten Fachliteratur, die, in deutscher oder tschechischer Sprache verfasst und meist in Prag verlegt, Gelehrte aus den bohmischen Landern zu Autoren hatte. Biographische Notizen zu 210 Gelehrten und 80 Arzten von Rang, Berichte uber Gelehrtengesellschaften und Mitgliedschaften, Museen und Sammlungen belegen aus medialer Perspektive, dass den bohmischen Landern eine fuhrende Rolle im Wissenschafts- und Bildungsbereich konzediert werden muss. Gezeigt wird jedoch auch der Umgang der Wiener Blatter mit der Geschichte der bohmischen Lander per se. Er schlug sich in Anzeigen historiographischer Schriften ebenso nieder wie in historischen Abhandlungen und journalistisch aufbereiteten Textsorten, etwa geschichtlichen Skizzen und Gedachtnisnotizen. Auch fanden sich bis ca. 1820 zahlreiche "Intelligenznachrichten" zum Schul- und Bildungswesen der bohmischen Lander, die hier erfasst werden. Den Prozessen um die Emanzipation ("Wiedergeburt") der tschechischen Sprache und Kultur schenkten diese Wiener nichtpolitischen Blatter (so die Einstufung durch die Metternich'sche Zensur) oftmals "sine ira et studio ohne jedwede nationalideologische Voreingenommenheit" (Moritz Csaky) Beachtung. Damals existierende Verbindungen zur Wiener Universitat sowie zum Presse- und Verlagswesen in der Haupt- und Residenzstadt werden kenntlich gemacht.
