Nur wer das mentalitätsgeschichtliche Phänomen Burg erforscht und verstanden hat, kann auch erklären, wie das Bild der Burg entstanden ist und vor allem, warum die Bauten ihr spezifisches Aussehen erhielten. Und nur so kann auch die scheinbare Diskrepanz von ehemals tatsächlich gebauten Burgen und dem Bild, das von der Burg vorherrscht, begriffen werden.
Die Beiträge dieser Tagung, die im September 2007 in Werfen in Salzburg stattfand, wenden sich dem Bild der Burg vor 1500 zu. Es ging um die Fragen, mit welchen Konnotationen Burgen in der Literatur der Epoche aufscheinen, für welche religiösen und profanen Allegorien das Bild der Burg herangezogen wurde, inwieweit Abbildungen und Beschreibungen in einer eigenen Tradition standen bzw. inwieweit es zu einer Wechselwirkung zwischen der Burg im Kopf und der materiellen Repräsentation im Burgenbau kam.
Die Herausgeber: Olaf Wagener, Diplom-Rechtspfleger; Studium der Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Siegen; zahlreiche Arbeiten, insbesondere zu burgenkundlichen Themen, Belagerung von Burgen und Belagerungsanlagen sowie Kriegführung im Mittelalter.
Heiko Laß, Kunsthistoriker und Historiker; Gründungsmitglied und erster Vorsitzender des Marburger Arbeitskreises für europäische Burgenforschungen e.V.; Dissertation über Jagd- und Lustschlösser im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert; zahlreiche Publikationen zur Architekturgeschichte in Mittelalter und früher Neuzeit und der Kultur von Residenzen.
Thomas Kühtreiber, Studium der Ur- und Frühgeschichte und einer Fächerkombination aus Erdwissenschaften, Geschichte und Volkskunde in Wien; seit 1997 Lektor für Mittelalter- und Neuzeitarchäologie an der Universität Wien und Mitarbeiter am Institut für Realienkunde des Mittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit, Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften.
Peter Dinzelbacher, promoviert in Wien und habilitiert in Stuttgart; lehrt in verschiedenen mittelalterlichen Bereichen (v. a. Mentalitäts- und Religionsgeschichte) u. a. an den Universitäten Wien und Augsburg; über 40 Publikationen in Buchform.
