English summary: Frederick wanted to make an impact on history- and he has done it since his attempt to flee from the court of his father at 18 years old in 1730. He wanted to be recognized as "Greater" by both his contemporaries and posterity: as a field commander, poet, philosopher and supporter of the arts. Contemporaries already noted these achievements but they puzzled over who Frederick was, and asked about the man's personal and moral character but Frederick made a secret out of them. He left people in the dark about his character and presented himself as something else, was always difficult to predict, but always ingeniously staged and gave concern for his personal glory. The New Palace is the architectural representation of his aspiration. The castle was conceived in detail by Frederick and is should be a triumphant monument of his "greatness." The exhibition with expressive original documents and the accompanying book permit a view behind the masks of the kings. The exhibition reveals in twelve thematic section, Frederick's personality and character, his ideas, his thoughts and actions. That after 300 years new information about Frederick the Great are still being discovered, is also clarified in the volume. The book gathers cross-sections of the research results, the results of the 2007-founded international conference on Prussia's great king.
