The book highlights what Mahatma Gandhi wanted in India of his dreams. It discusses his dream models of villages and cities, and also of the attitude of people towards society and nature. It also covers the important events of pre- and post-independent India. It explores the critical decisions taken by Mahatma Gandhi during the crucial period on the eve of independence.
The book has nine chapters dealing with Mahatma Gandhi’s role in controlling riots particularly in Kolkata and Delhi, his assassination and mindset behind, and Gandhi’s dream India. The first chapter, India Becomes Independent, discusses how Gandhi controlled the riots in Kolkata that erupted due to the partition of India. The second chapter, Delhi—The City of Dead, and the next chapter, The Greatest Fast, discuss Gandhi’s way of controlling riots in Delhi that erupted due to the partition. Gandhi desired to live for 125 years to see the whole world free. But on 2nd October 1947 he lost this desire which has been discussed in the fourth chapter entitled Lost Desire to Live 125 Years. The fifth chapter, Second Crucifixion, discusses the assassination of Gandhi and consequences thereafter. The next chapter, World Mourned for Mahatma Gandhi, is about the grief and condolence expressed by the eminent as well as common people through out the world. The seventh chapter, Mindset Behind Gandhi’s Assassination, is on the philosophy behind the assassination of Gandhi. The eighth chapter, Betrayal of Mahatma Gandhi, studies how we have moved away from the path shown by the father of the nation. The last chapter of the book, India of Mahatma Gandhi’s Dreams, studies Gandhi’s writings in Harijan, Young India, and Hind Swaraj, which express his views on India of his dreams.

Sheshrao Chavan is a prolific writer. He has to his credit over two dozen books. He has been an astute university administrator, Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Aurangabad Kendra, Vice-President (worldwide) of the Association of World Citizens, which has NGO status with the United Nations and Consultative Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council and a World Citizen.
Shri Chavan has participated in conferences and seminars both at national and international levels. He delivered keynote address at the International Conference on Reforms and Revitalization of the United Nations held at San Francisco in 2004. He has also addressed a number of meetings and workshops at the United Nations’ Headquarters in New York. He has also addressed a Conference of Fellow of Reconciliation (FOR) at Seattle in Washington. He has also addressed the third International Conference of Chief Justices of the world held at Lucknow in India in 2002, which was attended by the Chief Justices of forty countries.
