English summary: While in the Middle Ages melancholy was mainly seen as the least pleasant of the four temperaments, in the late 15th century Marsilio Ficino from the Florentine Neoplatonist circle formulated a fundamentally new definition as a consequence of which melancholy became an attribute of exceptional, intellectually outstanding persons. The present study investigates how this concept was put across in German-speaking countries in the 16th century. To this end the author not only examines sources from the fields of medicine, philosophy and literature, partly tapping new evidence, but also looks into the paths and modes of transfer from a cultural science and historical perspective. The analyses of selected examples show that the dissemination of Ficino's definition of melancholy took place as a process of cultural translation, transformation, and adaptation. German text. German description: Die Melancholie galt im Mittelalter vorwiegend als das schlechteste der vier Temperamente. Zum Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts formulierte jedoch Marsilio Ficino im Umkreis des Florentiner Neuplatonismus eine grundlegend gewandelte Konzeption, mit der sie in der Folge zum Merkmal des aussergewohnlichen, geistig hervorragenden Menschen wurde. Die vorliegende Studie geht der Frage nach, wie dieses Konzept in den deutschsprachigen Raum des 16. Jahrhunderts vermittelt wurde. Hierfur werden nicht nur Quellen aus den Bereichen Medizin, Philosophie und Literatur untersucht und teils neue Zeugnisse erschlossen, sondern wird auf der Grundlage kultur- und geschichtswissenschaftlicher Ansatze auch nach den Wegen und Modi dieses Transfers gefragt. Dabei zeigen die Analysen ausgewahlter Beispiele, dass sich die Vermittlung von Ficinos Melancholiebegriff als ein Prozess kultureller Ubersetzung, Transformation und Adaptation vollzieht.
