Einerseits wegen der militärischen Auseinandersetzungen rund um den 1. Weltkrieg. Insbesondere der Kriegseintritt der USA ist als Novum in der Geschichte zu sehen, da die Intervention der Vereinigten Staaten auf eine Abkehr von einer isolationistischen Politik hin zu einer au enpolitischen Geltungspolitik hindeuten. Andererseits sind die politischen Veränderungen in Russland zu nennen. Das agrarisch geprägte Zarenreich unterzog sich 1917 einer doppelten Veränderung. Zunächst ist dabei die Februarrevolution zu nennen, in deren Zug der Zar abdankte und eine Provisorische Regierung gebildet wurde. Diese Regierung konnte sich nur über eine Dauer von wenigen Monaten an der politischen Macht erfreuen, denn bereits im Oktober begann die zweite Revolution, welche in dieser Arbeit genauer thematisiert werden soll. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist eine Beurteilung inwieweit der Revolutionsbegriff dabei angebracht ist. Dabei soll zunächst der Revolutionsbegriff, in Abgrenzung zum Begriff des Putsches, dargelegt werden. Danach folgt eine Aufzeichnung der historischen Ereignisse, damit abschlie end eine genaue Bewertung vorgenommen werden kann. Die Oktoberrevolution ist bereits in vielen Werken vertieft wurden. In den letzten Jahren ist Zahl der Publikationen weiter stark gestiegen. Ein wesentlicher Grund ist dabei die historische Entwicklung. Zunächst wurde eine objektive Forschung, aufgrund von Diktaturen, wie dem Nationalsozialismus oder dem Stalinismus unmöglich. Danach folgte der Ost - West - Konflikt. Eine einheitliche Forschung war dadurch nur schwer möglich. Erst durch den Fall des Eisernen Vorhangs änderte sich dies, da nun auch westliche Historiker Zugang zu russischen Quellen erhielten und die Geschichtsforschung auch nicht mehr nur als I
