Erstmals liegt mit diesem Band eine umfassende Textsammlung zur Pneumatologie in der Alten Kirche vor. Die Texte umfassen die frühen Schriften vom Anfang des 2. Jahrhunderts bis hin zu Augustin. Der Band ist in drei Teile gegliedert: Zusammenhang der Pneumatologie mit der Kirche und ihrer Geschichte sowie der Heiligen Schrift; zentrale Bedeutung der Pneumatologie für die Beschreibung des neuen Lebens als Christin bzw. Christ, d.h. Erleuchtung und Heiligung; trinitätstheologische Reflexion im Blick auf den Heiligen Geist. Deutlich wird, da die Pneumatologie zu den umstrittensten Feldern in der Alten Kirche gehörte. Es war lange Zeit unklar, was als kirchliche Lehre akzeptiert werden würde. Neben griechischen und lateinischen Quellen werden daher auch einige syrische und koptische Quellen präsentiert. Alle Texte sind übersetzt und knapp kommentiert. Eine zusammenfassende Einleitung und eine umfangreiche Bibliographie machen das Werk zu einem wertvollen Arbeitsinstrument.

About The Author

Die Autoren: Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dieter Hauschild ist seit 1984 Ordinarius für Alte Kirchengeschichte in Münster. Dissertation und Habilitation beschäftigen sich mit Themen aus dem Bereich der Pneumatologie. Außerdem ist er als Übersetzer der Briefe des Basilius von Cäsarea hervorgetreten. Weitere Schwerpunkte seiner Forschung sind die Reformationsgeschichte, besonders Norddeutschlands, der «Kirchenkampf» und die Zeit nach 1945.
PD Dr. Volker Henning Drecoll ist Privatdozent für Kirchengeschichte in Münster mit Schwerpunkt Patristik. Neben seiner Dissertation zu Basilius hat er sich mit Augustins Gnadenlehre beschäftigt und ist an der Herausgabe des «Augustinuslexikons» beteiligt. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die späte Reformation.
