Svetlana Alexiévich (1948) es una afamada periodista, es-critora y ensayista bielorrusa cuya obra ofrece un retrato profundamente crítico de la antigua Unión Soviética y de las secuelas que ha dejado en sus habitantes. Se licenció en Periodismo por la Universidad de Minsk y colaboró con la revista local Neman, para la que escribía ensayos, cuentos y reportajes.
Ha cultivado su propio género literario, al que denomina «novela de voces», en la que el narrador es el hombre corriente -aquel que no tiene voz, el mismo que se ha llevado su propia historia a la tumba, desde la Revo-lución hasta Chernóbil y la caída del imperio soviético-. En sus libros, traducidos a más de veinte idiomas, Svetlana Alexiévich trata de acercarse a la dimensión humana de los hechos a través de una yuxtaposición de testimonios indi-viduales, un collage que acompaña al lector y a la propia Alexiévich a un terrible «descenso al infierno». Es autora de La guerra no tiene rostro de mujer (1985, ed. act. 2008), Muchachos de zinc (1989, ed. act. 2007), Voces de Chernó-bil (1997, ed. act. 2005), Últimos testigos (2004) y El fin del «Homo sovieticus» (2013).
