About The Book

Artist and award-winning writer Philippa Stockley has designed, made and painted since childhood.

Years as an impoverished painter made being frugal, ecological, and always recycling second nature. After buying a derelict small house, decorating it on a tight budget was top of the list. Stockley paints, sews, saws, cooks and mends. In Paint & Make she shares how she paints murals, floor coverings, panels and faux-effects, and makes soft furnishings, useful and decorative small shelves, organic polish, and home-made treats.

With more than 300 original photos and drawings by the author, this beautiful and practical book shows you how to do the same. Where possible choose natural materials and reject needless plastics, aggressive chemicals, and waste. Making things yourself saves money, gives a unique result, and is satisfying and enriching. Careful use of precious natural resources is something to be proud of. Stockley shares projects from her own home to inspire you to create something unique and special in yours -- without breaking the bank.

About The Author

Stockley, Philippa: - "Philippa Stockley has painted since the age of four, doing her first set designs at eleven. As an adult she has painted widely professionally, from shop fronts to murals and wall finishes, a trompe l'oeil carpet on a concrete floor in a hairdresser's, and book jacket designs. She exhibits portraits and still lifes and (of course) does all the painting in her Georgian home. She also designs and sews things for the house - from curtains to cushions - as well as producing home-made jam, fragrant beeswax polish and lemon vodka, for home use or as gifts. Basic carpentry includes making anything from little shelves to simple picture frames. Philippa is author of numerous books including Restoration Stories (Pimpernel Press, 2019) in which she tells the story of her Georgian house in London."
