About The Author

Tim Carter is the author of the syndicated newspaper column Ask the Builder. He's one of the few members of the working media that has decades of hand-on experience working in the homes of paying customers. Named as one of the Big 50 Remodelers in 1993 by Remodeling magazine, Carter leveraged this award into a media career where he could help millions of homeowners. Carter's weekly column runs in 70 papers nationwide and is read by millions of people each week. Carter is a master carpenter, master plumber, master roof cutter and has nailed on more shingles than he cares to remember. Carter's YouTube channel has more subscribers than any other first-person home improvement talent and his videos have been watched over 49,000,000 times as of June 2017. Perhaps his most enjoyable activity is producing his weekly free newsletter that is distributed to over 51,000 subscribers. It's considered one of the quirkiest newsletters out there because of Carter's folksy style. A college-trained geologist, Carter incorporates earth science into his work on a frequent basis. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Carter has been married since 1974, has three children, is a licensed amateur radio operator and was a train conductor to boot! When not helping homeowners with their emergencies, Carter enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors doing amateur radio from the mountains and trails in New Hampshire.
