Based on a popular blog by the same name, For Boomers Only takes a humorous look at what it's like to be a baby boomer in the new millennium - dealing with smart phones, blister packs, texting, downsizing, family holidays, digital music, sex, dating over 50 and avoiding retirement. The book deliberately avoids political arguments, whining, groaning, hurtful criticism, deep spiritual feelings and inner meanings, and it is completely drug free except for an occasional mention of minoxidil. In short, the book sends a message, on behalf of all boomers, we're not 'over the hill, ' we're still trying to climb up it

Author Rick Townley, a baby boomer since birth, proudly states that he was an embarrassment to the English department at a major eastern university and has been writing vaguely witty commentary since his twenties. During his career he was a senior executive at several well-known news and publishing organizations that gave him excellent recommendations when he promised not to return. He was an involved single dad who raised two ungrateful children who are now very successful while he lives in poverty, without electricity or heat, raising a precocious 5-year-old granddaughter named Chloe. She is his writing mascot and subject of a book published last year about their journey together. Rick started the blog in June, 2010, after promising not to attract attention from Homeland Security, the FBI, the AFL-CIO or the NFL. He is a former resident of Manhattan who now lives in southern Alabama. There is no truth to the rumor that he was asked to leave the city by the mayor's office.
