About The Book

The Backyard Roosters of Saint Paul is a collection of portraits and stories documenting 45 of Saint Paul, Minnesota's finest whimsical roosters. Their stories mark them as leaders in their avian community. Susan Gainen is a Whimsical Wildlife Documentarian whose Prime Directive is to Spread Whimsy. Her living room studio is on a path and flyway well-traveled by creatures who drop in to sit for portraits, tell stories, and (all too often), eat her snacks. Some eat-and-run; others stay for years. By giving Saint Paul's Roosters an opportunity to tell their stories through her writing and watercolor portraits, she has their uncovered hidden talents and unusual stories. Among her subjects are Robert the Tap Dancing Rooster (on his way to Broadway to be the world's first tap dancing rooster), several "Cousin Charlie" Roosters, French Rooster, two Stained Glass Roosters, Two Blue Rooster Cousins (big supporters of public radio stations that play Bluegrass, Blues and Jazz), several roosters from The Lost Cave Paintings of Saint Paul, a Rooster from Hyperspace, two 3D Roosters, Ready-to-Rock Rooster (always looking for gigs for his band, the Rockin' Roosters), Glowing Rooster (not radioactive), Marsala Rooster, Green Tail Rooster, Piano Man Rooster, Blue Crystal Rooster, and Bright Fan Tail Rooster. About The Author

Susan Gainen is a Whimsical Wildlife Documentarian whose studio is on a path and flyway through Saint Paul Minnesota, that is well-traveled by whimsical creatures. These creatures stop by her studio, sit for portraits, and tell their stories. She has produced two collections of portraits and stories: The Small Friends' Chronicles (http: //www.blurb.com/b/3479674-the-small-friends-chronicles) and Meet the LLLamas (their SpeLLLing) (http: //www.amazon.com/Meet-The-LLLamas-Susan-Gainen-ebook/dp/B009NOQ7A6). A life-time arts-and-crafts person, she has also been a typesetter twice, worked in the food and car businesses in sales and administration, practiced law, studied Library and Information Science, worked as a headhunter for lawyers, and a law school career services director. In addition to her current art ventures (painting, writing, teaching), she is a career consultant for career changers, and has a very modest cooking school.
