Ragged Dick is a novel written by Horatio Alger Jr. and published in 1868. The story follows the life of a poor and homeless boy named Richard Hunter, who is also known as Ragged Dick. Richard lives on the streets of New York City, surviving on odd jobs and his wits. Despite his difficult circumstances, he is determined to make something of himself and rise above his poverty.Through a series of events, Richard meets a wealthy businessman named Mr. Whitney, who takes an interest in him and offers him a job as an office boy. Richard seizes the opportunity and works hard to prove himself, eventually earning a promotion and becoming Mr. Whitney's personal assistant.As Richard's fortunes improve, he begins to encounter new challenges and temptations. He must navigate the world of business and learn to resist the allure of easy money and dishonest practices. Along the way, he also forms friendships and relationships with other characters, including fellow street urchin Ben, kind-hearted prostitute Nell, and wealthy socialite Micky Maguire.Ragged Dick is a classic rags-to-riches story that explores themes of hard work, determination, and morality. It is a timeless tale of overcoming adversity and achieving success through perseverance and integrity.It was a small apartment with a few plain tables unprovided with cloths, for the class of customers who patronized it were not very particular. Our hero's breakfast was soon before him. Neither the coffee nor the steak were as good as can be bought at Delmonico's; but then it is very doubtful whether, in the present state of his wardrobe, Dick would have been received at that aristocratic restaurant.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
