This charming early chapter book is perfect for beginner readers 4-8 taking their first steps into longer stories!

The adventure begins when Hali finds a lost Parrot perched on her SUV. She can only imagine the experiences the young Bird had during its frightening adventure. This fictionalized, but true, story addresses decision-making, problem-solving, trust, and the love that develops between people and animals.

The story is told from two perspectives: Hali's, who must figure out how to offer safe pet care, and the parrot's, who is later named Georgie. Georgie puts a voice to his terrifying few days, sharing how his fun adventure turned to fear and exhaustion.

As Hali and Georgie navigate a delicate process of trust to get him safely inside, they open the door for conversations about safety, basic needs, and emotions. The clear, engaging narrative strengthens word recognition, reading fluency, and comprehension.

Once safe, and despite efforts to find his original owner, Georgie and Hali's new life together still presents more adventures and lessons in responsible pet ownership.

The book concludes with fun facts about Quaker Parrots and essential advice about what children should do before ever approaching a stray animal. Throughout the book, there are many teachable moments for 4-8 year -olds who will love to read this tale of friendship alone or with help.

Schafer, Halina: - "Halina Schafer retired from her second career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker after working with families and individuals for over 20 years. She began writing children's books when she retired and a third generation child was born in her family. The book for birth to pre-school age children, "Fiona and the Extra-Special Invisible Gifts," was published in November of 2017. Now, she has written an "easy reader" chapter book for ages 6 - 9. Halina holds a Master's degree in Social Work. She had multiple post-grad certifications and focused on child development when she was a Director of a program that had a children's nursery to pre-school component. She considers herself a life-long learner. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Halina believes every children's book should have some element of diversity in the story."
