Das hängt damit zusammen, dass in Italien lange Zeit die Frage der eindeutigen schriftsprachlichen Fixierung im Vordergrund stand. Vor der politischen Einigung 1861 in Italien war Italienisch nicht die obligatorische Ausdrucksform und wurde nicht von der Sprachgemeinschaft verwendet. Erst nach 1861 festigte sich der Stellenwert des gesprochenen Italienisch und es wurde zum Forschungsgegenstand. Den ersten gro en Beitrag leistete 1922 der Sprachwissenschaftler Leo Spitzer. Er beschrieb erstmals das gesprochene Italienisch, wobei er sich bei seinen Quellen hauptsächlich auf Theaterstücke bezog. Er beschrieb das parlato nello scritto und brachte Kategorien wie Eröffnungsformen des Gesprächs, Sprecher und Situation und Gru formeln in die Darstellung ein. Das wird in den 1970er Jahren in der Pragmalinguistik wieder aufgegriffen. In den 50er und 60er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts rückte das Regionalitätskriterium in der Beschreibung des Gegenwartsitalienisch in den Vordergrund. Der mündliche Sprachgebrauch wurde erfasst. Das Augenmerk wurde dabei auf raum- und schichtenspezifische Züge im Gesprochenem und Geschriebenem gelegt. Weiterhin wurden die sprachgeschichtliche Komponente und die morphosyntaktischen Unterschiede zwischen dem mündlichem und schriftlichem Italienisch herausgestellt. Der Worts
