(Alfred Hitchcock) Den Vorwurf, der Film werde der Vorlage nicht gerecht, m�ssen sich viele Filmregisseure gefallen lassen. Handelt es sich dabei auch noch um eine bekannte, allgemein anerkannte und vom Kritiker pers�nlich gesch�tzte Vorlage, fallen diese Vorw�rfe dann nat�rlich besonders drastisch aus. Schon seit dem Bestehen des Films, muss man sich mit diesem Konflikt auseinandersetzen. Die Probleme des Films, als eigenst�ndige Kunstform akzeptiert zu werden, h�ngen mit der Geschichte der Romanadaption eng zusammen. Schon von den ersten Schritten des Medium Films an, griffen die Filmemacher auf die Literatur zur�ck, um einerseits etwas eigenes daraus zu machen oder einfach nur dem Werk seine Wertsch�tzung zu verleihen. Es ist �u erst wichtig, dass man dem Medium Film seine gen�gende Anerkennung, mit eigenen Bewertungskriterien, gibt. Nichtsdestotrotz kann ein Vergleich mit einer Vorlage durchgef�hrt werden. Man muss auch beurteilen k�nnen, in wie fern die Entscheidung, einen Film aus einer Vorlage zu machen, richtig war. Der Roman " Madame Bovary" von Gustave Flaubert wurde 1856 ver�ffentlicht und etwas mehr als 100 Jahre sp�ter verfilmte Claude Chabrol dieses grandiose Meisterwerk.
