Vorwort Die in diesem Band vorgelegten Fallstudien sind aus Empiriepraktiken fur Stud- rende der Frankfurter Goethe Universitat entstanden. Angeregt wurde ich zu d- sen Lehrveranstaltungen durch die Erfahrung von inkompatiblen Diskurswelten, die ich in der Zeit vor dem Irakkrieg 2003 als Medienkonsument in Deutschland und Polen gemacht habe. Ich bin Mitte der siebziger Jahre als 68erin ins soz- listische Polen gekommen und habe seither als Transmigrantin zwischen Deuts- land und Polen gelebt. Unter solchen Lebensbedingungen habe ich Fremdheit als Chance begriffen, meine Gewissheiten in Frage zu stellen und die Beding- gen meines Denkens zu verstehen. Dies ist die Perspektive, aus der heraus ich die deutsche Debatte um europaische Offentlichkeit gelesen habe. Ich danke allen Studierenden, die diese Arbeit ermoglicht haben, d.h. auch denjenigen, deren Arbeiten nicht zur Veroffentlichung ausgewahlt wurden.
