Este estudo de m�todos mistos investiga as atitudes e a profici�ncia lingu�stica de 100 estudantes do primeiro ano de ci�ncias m�dicas da Universidade de Tlemcen, na Arg�lia, centrando-se na sua utiliza��o e nas suas percep��es em rela��o ao �rabe padr�o moderno (MSA), ao franc�s e ao �rabe argelino (AA) como l�nguas de ensino. Os resultados revelam um desfasamento entre a pol�tica lingu�stica oficial - a arabiza��o atrav�s do MSA - e as pr�ticas lingu�sticas reais. Apesar de expressarem atitudes positivas em rela��o � MSA, os estudantes demonstram uma profici�ncia produtiva limitada em franc�s, a l�ngua de facto da instru��o cient�fica, e recorrem frequentemente � altern�ncia de c�digos entre o AA e o franc�s para navegar no discurso acad�mico. Surpreendentemente, muitos estudantes expressam uma forte prefer�ncia pela utiliza��o do �rabe argelino como meio de aprendizagem de conte�dos cient�ficos, real�ando o seu papel funcional na compreens�o e comunica��o. O estudo revela um fosso significativo entre a pol�tica, a pr�tica e a prefer�ncia dos estudantes, exacerbado por atitudes negativas em rela��o ao code-switching, apesar da sua utiliza��o generalizada. Conclui com um apelo � reforma educativa e sugere uma potencial mudan�a para o ingl�s como meio de ensino cient�fico na Arg�lia.
