El libro G�nesis del Constitucionalismo en Venezuela de Irene Loreto Gonz�lez constituye un estudio hist�rico-jur�dico sobre los or�genes del constitucionalismo venezolano y el proceso intelectual, pol�tico y normativo que condujo a la Constituci�n de 1811, primera constituci�n escrita en idioma espa�ol. La obra analiza c�mo Venezuela transit� del r�gimen colonial mon�rquico hacia un Estado republicano y federal inspirado en los principios de soberan�a popular, separaci�n de poderes, supremac�a constitucional y reconocimiento de los derechos del hombre. A partir de una metodolog�a hist�rico-constitucional, la autora examina la influencia ejercida por la independencia de los Estados Unidos, la Revoluci�n Francesa y las Cortes de C�diz en la formaci�n del pensamiento pol�tico venezolano de inicios del siglo XIX. Asimismo, estudia el contexto jur�dico de la Capitan�a General de Venezuela, los movimientos precursores de la independencia, el Congreso Constituyente de 1811 y la configuraci�n institucional derivada de la Constituci�n Federal y de las constituciones provinciales. El texto sostiene como tesis central que los venezolanos buscaron inicialmente la libertad a trav�s del Derecho y de la construcci�n de instituciones constitucionales, antes que mediante la guerra. La obra tambi�n reivindica el aporte original del constitucionalismo venezolano al desarrollo del derecho constitucional moderno en Am�rica Latina y reflexiona sobre la vigencia contempor�nea de los principios republicanos frente a las crisis institucionales actuales.
