Sewa Singh obtained his education from Kurukshetra University and Panjab University from where he earned his Ph.D. degree in Library Science in 1984. He has been a practicing librarian and teacher of Library and Information Science for about 37 years. He has been Head of the Department of Library & Information, Science at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He also had a brief stint as University Librarian, and retired as Professor from the same university.
He has published more than 20 books, contributed 170 articles in various professional journals in India and abroad, and has many reports, and book reviews to his credit. He also has published an article in the world famous Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science, edited by Allen Kent, et al. He has participated in many national and international seminars and conferences during his professional career. He has also served on many committees, boards, bodies of different universities.
Dr Sewa Singh is a life member and former Vice President of Indian Library Association as well that of the IASLIC (Kolkata). He is the Life Member of the Society of Information Science, Association of Government Libraries and Information Systems, IATLIS, and Punjab Library Association. He is also on the Editorial Board of many professional periodicals published in India. He has been listed in many biographical sources in India and abroad, including the Roster of Information Scientists, Marquis’ Who’s Who, American Biographical Institute, Cambridge Biographical Institute, India Who’s Who (INFA), etc. He has been associated with the UGC Curriculum Development Committee, and completed UGC projects also. He has been honoured by many societies and associations including IASLIC.
