This book comprehensively reviews all the significant research ever undertaken on silk. The primary objective of writing this book is to create an awareness of the research in the field and thus stimulate readers to explore more about the fibre. Topics discussed are varied and cover a broad range like application of natural dyes on silk, study of specific properties which have not been explored earlier, etc. Properties of silk blends have been discussed. Different varieties of silk have been explored which include some non-mulberry silk varieties and also spider silk.

It is hoped that the book will provide useful reading and promote further research in the area. It is deemed a privilege to duly acknowledge the researchers whose noteworthy contributions have been included in the book.

Dr N. Gokarneshan got his degree in textile engineering from Karnataka University, post graduation from Bangalore University, and doctorate from Anna University, India. He had a stint of about 8 years in textile industry and remaining years in teaching. He has published more than 100 papers including a number of scholarly reviews in various leading journals and presented some papers in conferences. He has authored 9 books. He has also completed some sponsored projects. He is recipient of a number of recognitions and rewards for his contributions in the field. He is presently working as Professor and Head at the Park College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.
