A Hand-Book of Benares is a comprehensive guide to the ancient city of Benares (now Varanasi), India, offering detailed insights into its history, culture, landmarks, and religious significance. Often regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Benares is a spiritual center, particularly for Hindus. The book explores the city's temples, ghats, rituals, and festivals, highlighting its role as a hub of learning, art, and spirituality. It serves as both a historical document and a practical guide for visitors, providing a glimpse into the profound cultural and religious legacy of this revered city.

Arthur Caswell Parker (1881–1955) was a prominent Native American archaeologist, historian, and folklorist of Seneca descent. Director of the Rochester Museum of Arts and Sciences (1924–1945), Parker advanced research in anthropology, natural history, and the Genesee Region. He was a key figure in preserving Iroquois culture and artifacts, notably rescuing items during the 1911 New York State Capitol fire. He co-founded the Society of American Indians and became its president. In 1935, he became the first president of the Society for American Archaeology. After retiring, Parker continued his work in Native American advocacy and passed away in 1955.
