To make musical heritage accessible, he wrote "Hindustani Sangeet Paddhati" in Marathi. His disciple S. N. Ratanjankar and others continued his legacy. His contribution also includes the concept of "thaats," organizing ragas across ten musical scales, akin to Carnatic melakartas, shaping Indian musical theory.
