About The Translator: Charles Johnston (1867–1931) was an Irish writer, journalist, theosophist, and Sanskrit scholar. A former Indian Civil Service officer, he left India due to malaria and later settled in the U.S. Johnston translated key Sanskrit works, wrote on Indian philosophy and Theosophy, and co-founded the Dublin Hermetic Society. Married to Madame Blavatsky’s niece, he influenced Theosophical movements and birding communities. His writings, including The Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, reflect his deep engagement with Indian spirituality and Theosophy.
