The area that is called Konkan once included all the land that lay between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea; from Daman to the northern frontier of Goa. This book endeavors to offer a history of this land. The book is in 12 sections; they are 1) Early travellers, 2) Antiquities and Traditions; 3) The Musalmans; 4) The Portuguese in the 16th Centaury; 5) The Portuguese and their decline; 6) Sivaji; 7) The Marathas from the death of Sivaji to the expulsion of the Portuguese; 8) The Angarias; 9) Maratha’s from the fall of the Angarias to the accession of Bajirao; 10) The reign of Bajirao to the British conquest; 11) The English establishments in the Konkan Previous to 1818; and 12) British rule. This book is a reprint of the 1894 edition.

Alexander Kyd Nairne is the author of books such as The Flowering Plants Of Western India and History of the Konkan. He is co-author in a--A Handbook for Revenue Officers in the Presidency of Bombay.
