Sir Alexander Mackenzie (1842–1902) was a British colonial official who served as Chief Commissioner of Burma (1890–1895) and Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal (1895–1898). Born in Scotland, he joined the Bengal Civil Service in 1862 after studying at Cambridge. Mackenzie held various administrative roles, including Secretary to the Bengal Government and Member of the Governor-General's Council. During his tenure in Bengal, he faced natural disasters and worked on infrastructure projects like Calcutta's dock improvements. However, his aloofness and poor health made him unpopular. He retired in 1898, returned to the UK, and died in 1902. He was twice married and had two children.
