Imperial India: Letters From the East by John Oliver Hobbes is a reflective travelogue that captures the author's impressions of British-ruled India during the late 19th century. Presented in the form of personal letters, the book explores the cultural, political, and spiritual atmosphere of colonial India with keen observation and wit. Hobbes blends vivid descriptions of landscapes and cities with commentary on imperialism, native customs, and societal contrasts, offering a unique perspective shaped by her literary flair and Anglo-American identity.
