On Indian Problems, Dr. Vibhuti Patel discusses various socio-economic challenges facing the country, with a particular focus on issues related to gender, development, and social inequality. She explores the persistent gender disparities in education, healthcare, and employment, advocating for policies that promote women’s empowerment and equal opportunities. Patel also examines the impact of economic development on marginalized communities, stressing the need for inclusive growth. She delves into the persistence of caste-based discrimination and other social barriers, calling for a comprehensive approach to tackle these problems through education, legal reforms, and greater societal awareness to ensure equity and justice.

Dr. Vibhuti Patel (1875-1950) was a prominent economist and feminist scholar. Holding a Doctorate in Economics, she was a founding member and Trustee of the Anusandhan Trust and the Centre for Enquiry into Health and Allied Themes (CEHAT). Dr. Patel made significant contributions to Women's Studies and Gender Economics. She co-authored books like Indian Women: Change and Challenge and Reading for Half the Sky, and wrote extensively on gender issues for Economic Times. Formerly a Reader at the Research Centre for Women's Studies at SNDT University, she currently serves as Coordinator at Sophia Centre for Women's Studies and Development, Mumbai.
