Lala Har Dayal Mathur (1884-1939) was an Indian nationalist revolutionary known for his intellect and commitment to India's freedom struggle. He declined a career in the Indian Civil Service and inspired expatriate Indians in Canada and the U.S. during World War I against British rule. Born into a Hindu Mathur Kayastha family, he pursued Sanskrit education and received scholarships for Oxford University. In the U.S., he engaged in industrial unionism and advocated for communism, leading to his arrest in 1914. Later, in Berlin, he played a significant role in the Indian Independence Committee. Har Dayal's life ended in Philadelphia in 1939. He left behind a lasting legacy, with a commemorative stamp issued in his honor in 1987. His works cover topics such as education, culture, and religion, including "Bodhisattva Doctrines" on Buddhist Sanskrit literature.
