About The Book

The author has portrayed beautifully the character of the ancient king Ravana of Lanka and his kingdom, who was a Raksha, according to the hoary tradition. He was a Brahmin-Raksha. He knew all the Vedas. His punctilious recitation of the Sama Veda so pleased Mahadeva Siva that he not only saved him from the crushing weight of Mount Kailash but also bestowed on him boons of incalculable worth. The severe penance and austerities that he pursued with unexampled concentration earned for him sidhi-s galore. Ravana’s Lanka was more prosperous than Kuber’s Alakapuri. Ravana the benevolence despot saw to it that all his subjects were absolutely happy. This is the best government which desires to make the people happy, and knows how to make them happy. The commitment and devotion of the Lankan’s to their sovereign was total, complete and absolute. They willingly gave up their life for their monarch when the occasion arose. The book is the product of extensive study of Ravana and his people.

About The Author

Munnirpallam Sivasubramaniam Purnalingam Pillai was a Tamil languagewriter and Dravidologist. Purnalingam Pillai was born in 1866 toSivasubramaniam Pillai at Munnirpallam in Tinnevely district. His parents belonged to a Saiva Vellalar family. After his initial education, Pillai joined as a lecturer of English at the Madras Christian College. During this period, Pillai got interested in studying Tamil history and civilization. He edited a Tamil journal called Gnanabodhini along with Parithimar Kalaignar. Pillai published the first comprehensive study of Tamil literature as a historical narrative, titled A Primer of Tamil Literature. The narration was strongly imbibed with a Dravidian supremacist point of view. In the early 1920s, when excavations at Harappa and Mohenjodaro were in their nascent stages, Pillai, along with another Dravidologist, T. R. Sesha Iyengar, predicted that future discoveries would establish beyond doubt that the Indus Valley Civilization was of Dravidian origin and also along with it the antiquity of Tamil civilization and language
