In 1782, he journeyed from Calcutta through Kashmir and Afghanistan, crossing the Caspian Sea to Moscow. His 1785 work, Sketches of the Mythology and Customs of the Hindoos, offers insights into Hindu culture. After returning to India, he documented his travels, culminating in the posthumous publication of A Journey from Bengal to England in 1798
