About The Book

About The Author

About The Translators: Edward John Thompson (1886-1946) was a British scholar, novelist, historian, and translator known for translating Bengali literature into English and his association with Rabindranath Tagore. He taught English literature in Bengal, learned Bengali, and translated Tagore's works. Thompson authored two books on Tagore and returned to Oxford in 1923. Despite a conflict with Tagore over a book, he earned a PhD and continued translating and writing extensively, contributing to both fiction and non-fiction literature. Arthur Marshman Spencer (1886-1943), a WM missionary in India, exhibited strong leadership and special care for the poor and Indian national aspirations during his ministry in Sarenga from 1911 to 1932 and later in Calcutta. He provided crucial support to missionaries in Burma and China during the challenging summer of 1942. He passed away in Calcutta on April 14, 1943.
