Indian Classical Musical tradition has mostly been oral with each Gharana preserving its individuality and privacy. This book is one of the first books on the history of the Sarod a classical musical instrument of India. The book discusses the origin and development of the Sarod and ultimate modernization of this classical instrument. The book also highlights the contribution of the Seniva Maihar Gharana and Acharya Baba Alauddin Khan Sahib the founder father himself a living legend, it contains details about several illustrious disciples of this Gharana. Finally the structure and technique of playing the instrument have been dealt with leaving for the future musicians an treasure trove containing musical memoirs.

Avijit Ghosh is one of the most promising musicians of the Senia Maihar Gharana who continues the work of preserving the rich heritage of Indian Classical Music through the Sarod. He has completed his M.A and earned his doctorate in Instrumental Music from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He has received several National and International awards. Apart from being a brilliant performer and a teacher he also conducts stress reduction programmes through live Indian Music. This is his debut as an author, an attempt to document the evolution and development of one of the most mystical classical instruments.
