William Crawford Honeyman (1845–1919), a Scottish musician and author, was born in Wellington, New Zealand, before relocating to Britain in 1849. Mistaken for true stories, his detective tales influenced Arthur Conan Doyle and were praised as some of the best in their genre during his time.
