It is a matter of great pride to place before the world of scholars the special issue of this book. It was brought out on the occasion of the nineteenth conference. It is an analytical and etymological study (Onomastic) on the origins of the names of various towns, villages and other names mentioned in relation to the Mysore District. This work richly deserves accolades for this excellent research work in the field of Onomastics. This analytical study is the first of its kind in the field of Place Names study. Being a pioneer scholar in the field, his encouragement has given a fillip to the society to take up the Dictionary on Place and Personal Names. Man would practically have remained a brute but for his wonderful faculty of naming things around him and concepts that originate in his mind. The thinking ability and expansion of knowledge would not have been possible but for this great gift conferred upon him by nature. Historical, cultural and linguistic studies cannot be said to be complete without the application of the results of place name studies. Even ethnologists, geographers, archaeologists and natural scientists are likely to get solutions to their problems from the study of toponyms.

Deve Javare Gowda was an Indian Kannada author, also known as De Ja Gou or simply Javaregowda. He was disciple of authors T.N. Srikantaiah and Kuvempu. His literary career spans over decades in which he wrote over 34 biographies in Kannada language and other works including children's literature. He campaigned for the promotion of Kannada language. He had received Pampa Prashasti (1998), Padma Shri (2001) and the Karnataka Ratna (2008) awards for his contributions in literature and education. He became a centenarian in 2015 and died on 30th May 2016.Gowda served as the Vice Chancellor of Mysore University from 1969 to 1975 for consecutive two terms. He actively campaigned for promotion of Kannada language. Various encyclopedias were published in Kannada after his efforts. Kannada was also used in examinations conducted by Karnataka Public Service Commission. Gowda received his first doctorate in 1975 from the Karnataka University, Dharwad. In 1998, he received doctorate from Mysore University and in 2006 an honorary doctorate was accorded to him by the Kuvempu University at Shimoga
