Tout commence en 1820. Lors d'une sortie � cheval, St�phane Ajasson croise dans la campagne berrichonne Aurore Dupin de Francueil. Il a 19 ans, elle 16. Tous les deux sont � l'aube de leur carri�re et vont avoir une grande influence l'un sur l'autre, ayant en commun la passion de l'art et l'amour de la nature.
S�par�s par la vie, ils vont se retrouver � Paris en d�cembre 1827 pour vivre leur amour en secret, car dans l'intervalle, Aurore s'est mari�e avec M. Dudevant. Une enfant, Solange, va na�tre en septembre 1828 et devenir le tourment quasi permanent de sa m�re. Aurore �crit � cette �poque qu'elle aimera toujours St�phane. En revanche, elle choisira plus tard de faire d�truire toute leur correspondance. Il reste cependant les lettres in�dites de son fr�re Hippolyte Chatiron qui content les aventures de St�phane dans le Paris romantique.
Celui-ci devient le collaborateur de Georges Cuvier au Jardin des plantes et se fait conna�tre par de nombreuses publications de vulgarisation scientifique. En parall�le, Aurore �volue et s'�mancipe peu � peu de son mari. Elle va conqu�rir la libert� d'�crire et d'aimer... George Sand est n�e !
