Taken From The Enemy is a historical novel written by Henry John Newbolt and first published in 1892. The story is set during the Napoleonic Wars and follows the adventures of a young British officer named Philip Halkett. Halkett is captured by the French and taken as a prisoner of war. He is eventually released and sent back to England, but not before he has a chance encounter with a beautiful French woman named Jacqueline. Halkett becomes obsessed with her and spends the rest of the novel trying to find her and win her heart.Meanwhile, Halkett's military career takes him to various battles and skirmishes across Europe, including the Battle of Waterloo. Throughout it all, he remains focused on his quest to find Jacqueline and make her his own. Taken From The Enemy is a thrilling adventure story that combines historical accuracy with romance and drama. Newbolt's vivid descriptions of battle scenes and military strategy are balanced by his sensitive portrayal of Halkett's emotional journey.
