The Poems of William Barksted is a collection of two works by the English poet and playwright William Barksted, originally published in the early 17th century. The first work, titled Mirrha the Mother of Adonis or Lustes Prodegies, was published in 1607 and tells the story of Mirrha, a woman who falls in love with her own father and bears him a child, Adonis. The work is a retelling of the Greek myth of Adonis and explores themes of incest, desire, and tragedy.The second work, Hiren or The Faire Greeke, was published in 1611 and is a pastoral romance set in ancient Greece. The story follows the love affair between Hiren, a beautiful Greek woman, and a young man named Thirsilas. The work is filled with pastoral imagery and explores themes of love, beauty, and the natural world.This edition of The Poems of William Barksted was published in 1876 and includes both works in their original form, as well as an introduction and notes by the editor.
