About the Author
Prof. Om Prakash GhaiProf. Om Prakash Ghai had a distinguished academic tenure at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, where he headed the Department of Pediatrics for over two decades. Under his leadership, the department made great strides in academic excellence and child health services. He initiated the DM Pediatric program in 1969 with six residents and formalized the structure of Pediatric education in India.
He served in the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS as Professor and Head. He was elected National President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics in 1979, and President of the International College of Pediatrics from 1987 to 1990. The International Pediatric Association and the Indian Council of Medical Research awarded him the Dr. B C Roy Award, the Amrut Mody Prize (1983), and the Dr. Kanhaiya Mantri Prize (1989). He was awarded honorary fellowships of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the British Pediatric Association.
Prof. Ghai served as a short-term consultant to the World Health Organization and was a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Control of Diarrheal Diseases Program of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and Asian Development Bank. He was a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the Indian Council of Child Welfare. He was the editor of Indian Pediatrics and member of the editorial advisory boards of multiple journals. Prof. Ghai was a teacher par excellence, an inspiring leader and a true visionary. His name shall always remain etched in the annals of pediatrics of our country.
Editors Vinod K Paul MD, PhD, FAMS, FIAC, FASc, FNA : He is former Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is currently a full-time Member of the NITI Aayog, the National Institution for Transforming India, Government of India, where he anchors the health, women and child development, and education sectors.
Dr. Paul is an internationally recognized neonatologist, researcher, public health exponent and leader. He was the architect of India's neonatal health policy and programs. He is a fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences and other national science societies, and recipient of Dr B R Ambedkar Centenary Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research as well as the Public Health Champion Award. He has been conferred the Excellence in Academics Award by Indian Medical Association. He was honored with the Healthcare Personality of the Year Award (2019) by the International Pediatric Nephrology Association for outstanding educational and academic contributions.
Editors Arvind Bagga MD, FAMS, FIAP : He is Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is especially recognized for his clinical, research and education in pediatrics, especially in pediatric nephrology. He has been the editor of Pediatric Research, Indian Pediatrics, Coaching Kidney and associate editor Manual of Pediatric Nephrology. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and multiple academic societies. He was conferred the Education Excellence in Pediatrics Award by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics.
