Mehr als 5000 Songs wurden in der Zeit von 1960 bis 1990 hinter dem "Eisernen Vorhang" - vor allem in Ungarn, Polen und Ost-Deutschland - im Bereich Rock- und Popmusik produziert. Die heutige Radiolandschaft präsentiert davon jedoch lediglich einen minimalen Bruchteil mit gefühlt 10 bis 20 Titeln. Und so fragt man sich: War das wirklich schon alles? War da nicht noch dieser oder jener hörenswerte Song von dieser oder jener Band? Was sind dessen Charakteristika und Alleinstellunsmerkmale? - Welchen Einfluss hatte "Westmusik" auf ihn? - Was ist davon heute noch hörenswert? Was nicht? - Welche Rolle spielten die nationalen Hitparaden? - Was waren die wirklichen Nr. 1-Hits? - Gab es dreiste Plagiate? - Wer komponierte die besten Songs? - Wer schrieb die besten Texte? Wie wirkten sie auf uns? - Gab es politische Vereinnahmung? - Lebt der Ostrock nach 1990 weiter? - Wer sind dessen Erben? - Welche Bedeutung hat dieses Genre für nachfolgende Generationen? In 62 Kapiteln versucht der Autor an Hand zahlreicher Fakten Antworten auf o.g. Fragen zu finden. Angereichert mit Episoden aus dem eigenen Erleben entsteht so - ganz nebenbei - ein authentisches Bild des Lebens und "Kulturbetriebes" im Osten Deutschlands.
