Der Atlantische Regenwald, von dem heute nur noch 7,5 % seiner urspr�nglichen Fl�che �brig sind, umfasst die gr� ten zusammenh�ngenden Waldgebiete im Bundesstaat S�o Paulo, wo Palmen (Arecaceae) einen wichtigen Bestandteil der Biodiversit�t darstellen. Die typische Architektur der Palmkronen macht sie durch Fernerkundung leichter identifizierbar als andere B�ume im Walddach. In diesem Zusammenhang hatte diese Studie zum Ziel, das Potenzial der Verwendung von Fernerkundungsbildern mit hoher r�umlicher Aufl�sung f�r die Identifizierung von Palmen in der Region Ubatuba an der Nordk�ste von S�o Paulo zu bewerten. Ein QuickBird-Bild (0,6 m r�umliche Aufl�sung) aus dem Jahr 2007 wurde zur Vorabidentifizierung von Arten durch visuelle Interpretation verwendet und diente sowohl als Grundlage f�r die Feldplanung als auch als Analyseobjekt f�r die digitale Verarbeitung. Dieser Ansatz erm�glichte es, zu definieren, welche Palmenarten auf dem hochaufl�senden Satellitenbild identifizierbar sind, die minimale kartierbare Gr� e der Kronen von Palmen zu bestimmen und die morphologischen Merkmale zu definieren, die jede Art am besten beschreiben und die Identifizierung durch Fernerkundung erleichtern.
