La m�sica de concierto es una de las tipolog�as del arte sonoro y entre sus caracter�sticas m�s notorias est� el alto grado de elaboraci�n t�cnica y su complejidad interpretativa. En Cuba desde la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII ya se evidencia la presencia de ella, y su m�ximo exponente y el punto de partida para todo estudio de la m�sica de concierto en la isla, lo constituye Esteban Salas y Castro (1725 - 1803) quien nos leg� una gran variedad de obras de excelente factura. Tanto el siglo XIX como el XX fueron de gran crecimiento composicional e interpretativa, con una relaci�n de m�sicos bastante extensa, los que han dejado un legado de referencia no solo nacional sino en academias y escenarios internacionales. Holgu�n, provincia del norte oriental del pa�s, se fund� con presencia e influencia europea sobre todo de Espa�a, lo que en relaci�n a la cultura y el arte de los sonidos ha tenido una vigencia que ha trascendido hasta nuestros d�as. Es por ello, que la m�sica de concierto es una de las tipolog�as m�s notorias y de mayor consumo, e incluso en la actualidad. Nuestra ciudad holguinera tiene y luce grandes instituciones musicales, las que han alcanzado el respeto y la aceptaci�n de su p�blico tanto del territorio como de otras regiones del pa�s y fuera de �l; tal es el caso del Teatro L�rico Rodrigo Prats, la Banda de Concierto, la Orquesta Sinf�nica, el Orfe�n, as� como de importantes solistas l�ricos y agrupaciones de peque�o formato. La Ciudad de los Parques, como tambi�n se le conoce a Holgu�n, tiene un sistema de ense�anza art�stica desde el nivel elemental hasta el superior que nutre a las agrupaciones que defienden y apuestan por la m�sica de concierto, aunque tambi�n es la base para la interpretaci�n de g�neros populares. Con una formaci�n bastante profunda y avanzada, este sistema ha logrado el egreso de estudiantes que han llegado a obtener el reconocimiento en diferentes niveles y espacios tanto en Cuba como fuera de la isla. Este libro es el resultado de una investigaci�n muy seria y profunda, donde sus autores realizan un recorrido hist�rico y cultural sobre la m�sica de concierto en Holgu�n desde 1959 hasta 2016.
