El g�nero Xylophanes (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) agrupa un conjunto diverso de mariposas nocturnas distribuidas ampliamente en Am�rica, conocidas por su vuelo �gil y patrones alares cr�pticos. En el Neotr�pico, la diversidad del grupo es particularmente alta, y muchas de sus especies coexisten en h�bitats similares, lo que ha generado hist�ricamente retos taxon�micos, especialmente entre especies con morfolog�as pr�ximas. Xylophanes acrus y Xylophanes undata son dos especies que comparten �reas de distribuci�n, h�bitos ecol�gicos y una apariencia externa notablemente semejante. Aunque su separaci�n se ha justificado por caracter�sticas espec�ficas de genitalia y patrones de coloraci�n alar, estas diferencias son sutiles y a menudo dif�ciles de observar sin an�lisis detallados. En este contexto, la morfometr�a tradicional, combinada con an�lisis estad�sticos multivariados como el an�lisis discriminante, representa una herramienta �til para evaluar diferencias fenot�picas cuantificables que apoyen o refuten su estatus espec�fico. Este estudio se enmarca en el uso de colecciones entomol�gicas como recurso cient�fico para investigaciones taxon�micas. Las muestras analizadas fueron obtenidas de ejemplares adultos ya preservados en el MUPADI, con el prop�sito de evaluar el potencial de las medidas morfom�tricas en la separaci�n diagn�stica entre estas dos especies. Los resultados obtenidos en este estudio sugieren que Xylophanes acrus y Xylophanes undata, al menos en su morfolog�a externa adulta, no presentan diferencias cuantificables suficientes para una separaci�n morfom�trica confiable. Este hallazgo genera interrogantes sobre la robustez de su delimitaci�n taxon�mica basada �nicamente en morfolog�a tradicional. El an�lisis discriminante sigue siendo una herramienta valiosa para evaluar diferencias entre grupos biol�gicos, aunque su eficacia depende de la naturaleza de los datos.
